Software Reviews
Project
An analytical comparison of three alternative assessment tools was undertaken to better understand their relative advantages through the curriculum.
Context
- Teachers were making independent choices of assessment tools creating a potentially difficult support environment for the IT department.
Conditions
- A software representative had been invited to present Scantron features to a group of teachers.
- A teacher using Hot Potatoes wanted IT support for CGI scripts. If additional teachers would use the software, it would justify IT training for its support.
- Development of the academic web has expanded as opportunities for faculty training are limited.
Scope
- By posting this comparison on the Intranet for faculty, those unable to attend the Scantron presentation were given access to its features relative to other less expensive solutions.
- This review helped substantiate the use of assessment tools as grounded in research.
Role
- As academic technology coordinator, I continuously provide information on emerging technologies to the faculty and administration.
