College Selection Concept Map
Project
A concept map was designed so that juniors and seniors could easily organize their college selection documents and searches.
Context
As the number of colleges applied to increased, the complexity of record-keeping and comparative assessment warranted a solution to help students streamline and organize their materials.
Conditions
- Inspiration software was newly installed on campus.
- All seniors were introduced to Inspiration and received training in the use of this template at fall orientation.
Scope
- A template for a single college search was created to include decision-making factors such as links to university web sites, due dates and student essays.
- The template can be copied for each university considered. Those not chosen remain available for referral, but are differentiated by color and grouping.
- Schools can be arranged by deadline or relative interest level.
- Students quickly grasp the benefits of implementing the template and are able to transfer their knowledge of the software to other disciplines.
- The guidance department is able to monitor student choices and progress.
Role
- Collaboration in project design involved multiple individuals from the guidance department and myself.
